The first Starbucks Reserve Roastery outside of the United States opened in Shanghai. One of the largest in terms of area, 2700 m located on the city's famous Nanjing Road.
Opening Date: December 6, 2017
Significance: It was the second Roastery ever built (after the original in Seattle) and the first one located outside the U.S. Its opening highlighted the immense importance of the Chinese market to Starbucks and signaled the global expansion of its premium coffee experience
Scale: At the time of its opening, it was the largest Starbucks in the world (approximately 30,000 square feet or 2,700 m²). It held this title until the Roastery in Tokyo opened. The complex is a massive, two-story space.
